Did you know that there’s a huge difference in royalties between traditional publishing and self publishing? With traditional publishers, you can expect to earn 10-15% of the retail price for hardback books, 8-10% for paperbacks, and 25% for eBooks (source).
On the other hand, when you self-publish through Amazon’s Kindle Direct Publishing program, you have two choices. If you set your price in the $2.99-$9.99 range, you earn 70% royalties on all sales. Outside that range, you earn 35%.
Of course, there are other things to consider, such as the time it takes to for the book to be published, the connections offered by a publishing house, and the amount of control you want to have over the process.
